Does the Environmental Information Disclosure Promote the High-Quality Development of China’s Resource-Based Cities?

The high-quality development (HQD) of resource-based cities (RBCs) is the premise on which to ensure healthy, stable, and sustainable China’s economy. In this study, we use global Malmquist–Luenberger index based slacks-based measure directional distance function (SBM-DDF-GML index), an improved data envelopment analysis (DEA) model non-radial non-oriented, calculate HQD level 102 RBCs in China from 2003 2019. Then, empirically evaluate effect environmental information disclosure (EID) improvement by adopting method time-varying difference-in-difference with propensity score matching (PSM-DID) investigate heterogeneous effects EID. Additionally, mediating employed explore impact mechanisms EID HQD. results show that: (1) has a significant positive RBCs, conclusion still valid after series robustness tests. (2) plays more effective role promotion central resource strong-dependent growth regenerative than other types cities. (3) promotes through pollution reduction industrial structure upgrading effect. These findings enrich content relationship between present feasible path for achieve governance.
